Jordan is an Arabic kingdom bordered by Saudi Arabia to the south and east of Iraq; it’s situated in Western Asia, right on the East Bank of the Jordan River. Known for its highland areas and Mediterranean evergreen forestry, Jordan is part of a region regarded in history as the “cradle of civilization.”

The country boasts of many sports activities and this makes Jordan a popular tourist destination, especially during the summer season. If you’re planning a trip to Jordan and you’re wondering which of its many sights are worth checking out, consider these travel ideas:

Ancient Ruins of the Citadel

The ancient ruins of the Citadel lie in the heart of downtown Amman. The ruins sit on a hill, offering breathtaking view of the city below. The Citadel—which dates back to the Neolithic period—is one of the oldest places inhabited by people. In fact, a great number of civilizations—including the Roman, Byzantine, and Umayyad periods—occupied the Citadel. The ruins feature the Temple of Hercules, an Umayyad Palace, and a Byzantine church.

Archeologists discovered the ruins of the Citadel in the 1920s and though a large portion of the ruins has been uncovered, most of the Citadel’s complex structure remains buried beneath the earth. The ancient ruins of Citadel are one of Jordan’s main attractions.

Arabian Horseback Riding

Arabian horses are prized for their speed, agility, and endurance — making them one of the best horse breeds in the world! In Jordan, you can feel like a professional equestrian and ride an Arabian horse of your choice!

Arabian horses are known for their gentle disposition; so whether you’re a horseback riding newbie or a pro, you’ll have an amazing time checking out the sprawling natural landscape of Jordan on horseback!

Turkish Bath

If you love checking out local bathhouses, then the Turkish bath house will offer quite an experience! Unwind with a hot Jacuzzi and warm or cold saunas. Get a full body scrub the traditional way and enjoy being pampered! A full-on Turkish bath is a great way to rejuvenate the spirit; soothe tired, achy muscles; and achieve super smooth, supple skin!

Mix Perfumes

Customized perfumes are a thing in Jordan and if discovering and mixing different scents are your thing, then head to downtown Amman where little perfume shops give you the chance to customize scents. The fragrance of your choice will be housed in gorgeous vintage bottles too! It’s the perfect treat for yourself or a unique gift to loved ones at home.

On the other hand, if you prefer popular scents from high-end brands like Hugo Boss, Versace, or Dolce & Gabbana, they also offer these scents but at cheaper prices than those offered at Duty Free so shop away!

Go Spice Shopping

Whether you are a foodie looking to stock up on rare spices or you’re feeling a little adventurous in the kitchen, Jordan has hundreds of little spice shops all over town and they are worth checking out! We recommend trying out traditional Arabic spices like Za’atar and Sumak!
