No woman should be without her makeup bag. It doesn’t matter if you’re a beauty newbie or you’ve been into makeup since you were in your diapers. No matter what skill level you have, you should always have these basic cosmetics in your kit:

A Hydrating Sunblock

Don’t think a great base is all you need to achieve smooth, perfectly even skin. No matter how great your beauty products are, they won’t work if your skin is in a really bad shape. You have to prep your skin with a hydrating moisturizer with high SPF under your makeup. Sunblock helps protect the skin from the sun’s harmful rays. It helps delay aging; prevents freckles, blemishes, and age spots; and evens out the skin tone.

You want to go for SPF lotion that’s hydrating and not simply a moisturizer with SPF. Moisturizers with SPF typically contain low levels of sunblock. We recommend going for tinted SPFs or sunblock with at least SPF 30. The higher the SPF, the better! Also, most SPF lotions are very thick and goopy. Choose SPF lotions formulated for the face or those that double as primer so they go on light and comfortable on the skin.

A High-Coverage Concealer

No woman should be without an excellent concealer. A concealer helps cover darker blemishes and any discoloration on the face including redness around the nose area, zits, blemishes, occasional age spots, eye bags, or freckles. The great thing about concealer is that a little goes a long way. Just a small dot is all you need to even out and hide blemishes on your face. We recommend going for concealers that are oil-free and with light-reflecting particles to prevent light from highlighting the concealed area.

A Good Base

It’s not called foundation for nothing. You want a base that’s exactly the same color of your skin, it should look totally natural and wears like iron. The good news is, you don’t have to buy high end foundation to get great results. Drugstore foundations are keeping up with the quality and performance of really expensive bases but for a fraction of the cost! Go for lightweight bases in liquid or serum form if you have dry skin and powder foundation if you have oily to normal skin. For acne-prone, sensitive, and blemish-prone skin, we recommend going for mineral foundations.

Eyebrow Products

You don’t need to do a full face to accentuate your features. Sometimes, all you need is a good base, a pop of color on the lips, and immaculate brows. The eyebrows frame the face and you have to keep it trimmed and tidy all the time! That’s why your kit should always have small tweezers to get rid of strays, an eye pencil with spoolie or brow wax/powder kit, and a tiny brow trimmer. Brush your eyebrows with the spoolie end and start outlining your eyebrows with the pencil using short strokes to mimic real hairs. Fill out any gaps and use a brow mascara to seal everything in.

Lipstick

No makeup kit is complete without lip color. And you don’t need to spend a fortune on lipsticks because they come in various price points. When it comes to lipstick, go for ones that flatter your skin tone. For example, if you are cool-toned, choose a lip color with cooler undertones like pink. If you have warmer skin tone, go for lip color with peach undertones.
