1. Paraben

Parabens have been widely used in the cosmetics and beauty industry as preservatives because it effectively inhibits the growth of bacteria, mold and yeast in most beauty products. This might sound great and all but paraben is a carcinogenic compound, something that major beauty brands still use to this day.

Paraben contain estrogen-mimicking compounds that are linked to increased risk of breast cancer in women. These chemicals are absorbed to the body through the skin. Parabens causing cancer have been identified in biopsy samples from breast tumors so watch out! The dangers of parabens in beauty products are very well documented. Many beauty brands have already stopped adding parabens to their products. However, there are still a lot of cosmetic brands, including higher-end labels that use parabens as preservatives.

Parabens are commonly found in basic grooming products like shampoos, deodorants, body washes and facial cleansers. In cosmetics, some makeup contains parabens too. Parabens are not strictly found in cosmetics and beauty products, even pharmaceutical products and certain food contain this carcinogenic compound.
