3. Triclosan

If you think you are protecting yourself from 99.1% of germs by using an antibacterial soap or an antibacterial hand wash, think again. Developing the habit of using antibacterial anything could do more harm than good. Apart from inhibiting the body from forming immunity on germs (which is pretty healthy, like nature intended it to be), you might be slathering cancer-causing antibacterial agents on your skin.

You see, most antibacterial products contain trioclosan, a carcinogenic chemical known as endocrine disruptor. Triclosan not only messes with especially thyroid and reproductive hormones, it also causes skin irritation and yes, cancer.

But it gets worse, and when it’s worse than cancer you know it’s serious biz. An alarming study suggests triclosan actually contributes to the making of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. And if this persist, there will come a time when antibiotics will lose its effectiveness in treating a myriad of diseases.

Finally, here’s a shocking fact, clinical tests show that antibacterial soaps that has triclosan are no better than good ol’ soap and water, as far as cleaning and disinfecting are concerned. Triclosan is commonly used in toothpastes, antibacterial soaps and deodorants.
