Since ancient times, honey has been a staple in most households. In fact, in Ayurvedic medicine, honey was used as far back as 4,000 years ago. Apart from its health benefits, honey is also widely used in most skincare brands today. This is hardly surprising because honey is a great anti-aging skincare ingredient. It’s naturally rich in anti-oxidants that repairs cell damage from free radicals. Honey also has anti-microbial properties and helps protect the skin from harmful UV rays.

Honey is best used to soothe inflamed skin, normalize oily skin, and restore radiance. Apart from having the ability to absorb moisture, keep skin supple and smooth, and minimize fine lines, honey can also rejuvenate tired, dehydrated skin!

While you can use raw honey to treat various skin problems, it can also be mixed with several natural ingredients to address problematic skin. Below are several honey face masks customized to treat various skin types:

Honey Face Mask for Dry Skin

You will need:

1 teaspoon raw, organic honey

1 teaspoon organic, whole milk yogurt

1 teaspoon mashed avocado

Instructions:

In a clean bowl, mix all three ingredients and whip until you achieved a smooth consistency. Spread the mixture on your face and leave it on for 20 to 30 minutes. Rinse with warm water. Avocado contains moisturizing ingredients that restores suppleness while whole milk yogurt contains lactic acid that gently removes dead skin cells — revealing radiant, youthful skin underneath. Yogurt also refines the texture of the skin and stimulates the production of collagen, while honey rejuvenates tired skin. You can substitute avocado with extra virgin coconut oil.

Honey Face Mask for Oily Skin

You will need:

Half of a ripe banana, mashed

2 teaspoons raw, organic honey

½ teaspoon orange or lemon juice

Instructions:

Mix all ingredients in a clean bowl. Apply and leave on the face for 10 to 15 minutes. Rise with warm water or a warm washcloth. Banana and honey are potent skin moisturizers while orange or lemon helps clarify skin, remove impurities, and prevent breakouts.

Honey Face Mask for Acne-Prone Skin

You will need:

3 teaspoons raw, organic honey

½ teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions:

Mix the two ingredients together in a clean bowl. Slather the mixture on your face and leave it on for 10 to 20 minutes. Honey and cinnamon have anti-bacterial properties that soothe and treat inflamed skin. If you are allergic to cinnamon, use nutmeg as substitute. After 20 minutes, rinse with warm water.

Honey Face Mask for Sensitive Skin

You will need:

2 teaspoons raw, organic honey

1 teaspoon natural aloe vera gel

Instructions:

Incorporate the honey and aloe vera gel in a clean bowl and apply the mixture on your face. Leave the mask on for about 10 to 20 minutes and rinse with warm water. Honey and aloe vera both have anti-inflammatory properties that soothe irritated, sensitive skin.

Honey Face Mask for Blemish Prone Skin

You will need:

2 teaspoons raw, organic honey

½ teaspoon lemon juice

Instruction:

In a clean bowl, combine honey with lemon juice and apply the mixture on your face. Let the mask sit for 20 to 30 minutes and rinse with warn water. Lemon juice is a great blemish eraser — brightening the overall skin texture and fading dark spots and old scars. Honey has anti-bacterial properties to heal the skin and prevent the onset of acne.
