Going to the salon for a hair dye can be very expensive. It’s probably going to cost you a few hundred dollars just for that but if you want to save money then you can simply dye your own hair. However if you haven’t done it before, it’s best to follow directions carefully so that you can achieve the best color and results.

Hair dyes usually come in boxes with instructions on what to do but if you are aiming for a bleached hair then its best that you find the best kind of bleach to use. Dyeing your hair should be easy but if this is your first time to do so, here are the easy steps to do it.

Prepare your hair

Understand that bleaching your hair can be a very damaging process so it is best that you prepare your hair before anything else. To do this, all you have to do is to moisturize it with deep conditioners or hair masks. You can also use olive oil as your deep conditioner if you don’t have the right conditioner to use. Pour the conditioner (or olive oil) in your hair and secure it with a clamp or clip. Slip into your shower cap to keep the moisture in. Leave the conditioner for about 30 minutes and then rinse it with shampoo.

Prepare your bleaching kit/tools

If you have thick and dark, untreated hairs (meaning it has never been dyed before) pick the right amount of bleach that you need. If you don’t have any idea, ask some customer assistance and see if they can recommend the right kind of bleach for your hair. It is also important that you have enough developer to use. Pick somewhere 40-volume developer or higher if you have thick hair. Prepare your bleach powder, mixing bowl and hair dye brush too. You can also add toner if you are going for platinum blonde but if you just want regular bleach color then you don’t need that one.

Mix your bleaching ingredients and testing it

By this time you need to divide your hair into four parts/sections and make sure that you have clips to secure them so they don’t tangle. In a mixing bowl, add your developer and bleaching powder. Make sure to use gloves as you go and mix all the ingredients well. Make sure that you measure all the ingredients carefully. Once you have the mixture ready, take a small part of your hair and apply a good amount of it. Cover it with foil so the bleach can work well. Once you are satisfied with the color result then you can go ahead and apply the bleach on one section at a time.

Application

In applying the bleach, you can start from the bottom to up to the top and cover it with tin foil. Make sure that you apply them as quickly as you can if you want to get the same results as the one you have tested. If you are doing it all by yourself, make sure that you have at least two big mirrors so you can also see the back part of your hair. For best result, have someone help you apply it.

Rinse and apply conditioner

The color of your bleach may depend on how long you have set it on your hair. You can check them every 10 minutes to see if you like the color that you are seeing. Once you it’s as light as you want them to be, take off the foil and rinse your hair well with cold water. Once you have thoroughly washed your hair, condition your hair in generous amounts. Leave the conditioner about 3-5 minutes. This way they remain shiny and healthy despite being bleached.

So now that you know how to bleach your hair, go ahead and try. Make sure to have fun as you do and if it’s not the color you like, you can always dye your hair with another color, right?
