Love the delicate scent of perfumed body powder? If you’re tired of skimping on that luxurious body powder because they can cost a pretty penny, then you’d be glad to know you can make your own scented body powder at home and it will be just as good as the expensive store-bought kind.

Best of all, the materials can be found at your local grocer at affordable prices and you can choose the kind of scent you want for the powder! You can customize the perfumed body powder and indulge to your heart’s content.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how you can create your own homemade perfumed body powder:

You Will Need

A glass jar with tight-fitting lid

2 cups of pure, food-grade cornstarch

6 cotton swabs or a couple of cotton balls

Your choice of essential oils or perfume (not cologne)

Instructions

Step 1: First, you’d want to disinfect the jar. You can either buy a Mason jar (they’re cheap!) or you can reuse any old pasta sauce jars you have lying around in the kitchen. Boil water and just dunk the clean jar in the water for at least 3 minutes. This will kill all bacteria harbored by the jar. Dry the glass jar thoroughly before using it for the DIY perfumed body powder.

Step 2: Get your choice of perfume or essential oil. If you’re using your favorite scent, make sure it’s in perfume form and not cologne form. Because perfumes have higher concentrations of scent oils, colognes won’t work quite as well as perfumes.

Working with essential oils is trickier. If you’re using essential oils, it’s important to check all the various essential oil combinations to try. The key here is to determine which combinations you love the best. You don’t want to end up with a body powder with an overpowering scent.

Wet the cotton swabs or cotton balls with the perfume or essential oil. You want to generously spray or dip the cotton with the scent. If the scent gets too strong, open the window.

Step 3: Then, carefully drop the highly fragrant cotton balls or cotton swabs in the glass jar.

Step 4: Slowly pour the pure cornstarch on top of the cotton balls or cotton swabs up to about a quarter of the way to the lid of the jar. Pure, food-grade cornstarch can be found in the baking aisle of your local grocer. Pure, food-grade cornstarch is a great body powder and it does not contain traces of chemicals that many store-bought body powders have.

Step 5: After incorporating the cornstarch to the scented cotton balls or cotton swabs in the jar, close the lid tightly. Store the jar in a cool, dark place and leave it there for two to three days, occasionally shaking the contents once or twice per day. And you’re done! You have your very own DIY perfumed body powder!

If you want to go all fancy, you can buy a smaller, decorative jar and transfer some of the powder after 3 days and let it sit on your bathroom. You can also buy a powder puff from your local drugstore and dust the powder all over your body after a bath!
