Nothing like an electric shaver or a razor to tame bushy beards. These tools are after all, an important part of good grooming for men. Shaving has evolved over the past 75 years, moving from straight razor to manual razor before shifting to electronic shavers. While the type of shaver to get will depend on your personal preference, razor, and electric shavers have their own pros and cons. And in today’s post, we are listing down the benefits and drawbacks of both shavers:

Pros and Cons of Manual Razor

Pros: Closer Shave

If you are after the closest shave as it can get, then a razor will fare better than electric shavers. The way the razor is designed provides better contact with unwanted hair.

Pros: Easy to Maintain

Apart from providing a close shave, razors are fairly easy to maintain too. Just run the blade over a stream of water to dislodge shaved hair and you are done cleaning.

Pros: Accessible

Razors are definitely easier to find than an electric shaver. You can find manual shavers at all local supermarkets, convenience stores, and even petrol shops.

Cons: Requires Wet Skin Conditions

Unlike electric shavers, using a manual razor almost always require wet skin and some form of lubrication to avoid nicks.

Cons: Shaving Takes Longer

Shaving with a manual razor takes longer compared to shaving using an electronic shaver. The small blade covers only a small patch of skin. You’ll also need multiple passes to get the desired smoothness.

Cons: More Expensive than getting an Electronic Shaver

A plastic razor seems cheaper now but if you calculate how much money you spend on this shaver per year, you’ll find that an electronic shaver is much cheaper. The blade of the razor tends to dull after a few uses so you have to replace it several times in a week.

Pros and Cons of Electric Shaver

Pros: Less Time Shaving

An electronic shaver covers a larger patch of skin and requires fewer passes to achieve the desired smoothness. Because the shaver glides over the skin at a much faster speed, the shaving time is also shorter compared to using a regular razor.

Pros: Versatile

A regular razor is designed to eliminate facial hair, but an electric razor can be used all over the body. Apart from using the electric razor to get rid of unwanted facial hair, you can use it to eliminate body hair, trim mustache, and beards, etc.

Pros: Less Nicks

One of the reasons why electric shaver is more popular than regular razor is that it provides a smooth shave without nicks and cuts.

Cons: Less Efficient

Unlike a regular razor, an electronic razor does not shave as close to the skin as possible. If you are using a shaver, you will find yourself shaving more often.

Cons: Cleaning and Maintenance

Regular razors do not take much of your time as far as cleaning and maintenance go. But electric shavers require regular cleaning and maintenance to lengthen their lifespan.

Cons: Not Accessible

Unlike regular razors that are found in most supermarkets and convenience stores, electric shavers are only available in department stores.
