Gaining weight is easy but losing them becomes the problem. I think you will agree with me when I say that weight issues is one of the most common problems that people are facing today. I mean, who hasn’t struggled with their weight? I know I did when puberty hit me. Growing up I was never skinny, in fact, I came from a family who are neither skinny nor overweight but I still found out that losing weight is an ordeal that we all experienced.
I love food, that’s the problem. I also like to cook so most of the time, I end up whipping up something great and my mouth won’t stop eating. As a result my weight issues became a problem as I was getting older. Trust me; losing it was the hardest part since I have to endure hours of training in the gym so I can shed off a few pounds off my weight. Thank goodness I got over it and am now maintaining my weight.
So what makes us gain weight anyway? There must be some cause and not just blame it on food alone. While I was doing some reading, here’s what I found out. Here are five reasons why you are gaining weight even if you don’t want to.
Yes, your genes play a big role as to why you are overweight. If your parents are overweight then there’s a chance that you will become one in the future. Remember that obesity has a strong gene component. However this is not predetermined because our genes can still be altered. This means that what we send our genes can have a major effect on which genes are expressed and which ones are not. But yes, our genetic makeup does play a big part in our weight problems, no doubt about that.
2. Junk food
We love our potato chips and sodas but did you know that these junk foods contribute highly in stimulating the reward centers in our brain? The result of this is the “need” to eat them frequently and an addiction is developed. This goes the same with alcohol and nicotine. The chemicals mixed in them stimulate our brains to eat more and drink more. Before you even know it, you have gained tons of weight because of your unhealthy diet.
Sugar is often highly concentrated in many unhealthy foods. We often love eating sweets like chocolates, donuts, cakes, and the likes not knowing that we are accumulating sugar in our body. This sugar builds up changes our hormones and the biochemistry of our body thus contributing to our weight gain.
If you are on medication, check the adverse effects of your medication. The most common there is weight gain. So if you are on medication, I would suggest that you talk about your these side effects with your physician so you can do something about it.
5. Wrong diet
Some people eventually jump right away into dieting without knowing the outcome. Keep in mind that our bodies are different and certain diets do not work all the time. So before you go on a diet, talk to a nutritionist first. This way you will know what kind of diet will work best for you.
Now that you know the main reasons why you’re gaining weight, don’t just sit there. Genes or not, you have the option of doing something about your weight issues! If you are eating unhealthy food, time to stop. Change need to happen today and you have the choice. So get up and make that move today!
